This restored manor house and former
perfumery dating back to 1890, is situated on the outskirts of the
historic village and is surrounded
by enchanting
vineyards. An hour’s drive from Cape Town
make it the perfect getaway for anyone visiting the Western Cape.

The original Franschhoek Country House offer 14 well equipped rooms including 6 standard rooms, 5 luxury rooms and 2 cottages - all designed with your comfort in mind offering charming accommodation and expected services to invite you to relax and unwind. All en-suite rooms are individually appointed and have comfortable lush duvets with embroided percale cotton linen.
All rooms include en-suite bathrooms, direct dial telephone, mini-bar, tea and coffee making facilities and air-conditioning and most rooms have private balconies. A laundry service and room service is also available to guests
Standard Rooms (6)
Standard Rooms are located in the original manor house dating back to 1890 with charming rooms all renovated to offer all the expected luxuries and amenities. All en-suite rooms have a small lounge area inside each room together with a private balcony. In addition a separate guest lounge offer guests the opportunity to relax and enjoy a complimentary sherry.
Standard Rooms facilities include en-suite bathrooms with a range of amenities, shaver plugs, private balcony, individual air-conditioning, in-room tv, direct dial telephone, mini-bar, tea & coffee making facilities, overhead fans, safe in room, hairdryers and separate dresser tables.
Luxury Rooms (5)
The Luxury Rooms are located separately and in additional to all the facilities and amenities of the standard rooms offer more space also including a lounge area inside the room as well as a fire place and under carpet heating. Most luxury rooms offer a private patio or balcony to enjoy the views of the fountains and gardens of lavender.
Luxury Rooms facilities include full en-suite bathrooms with a range of amenities, shaver plugs, individual air-conditioning, fireplaces, under carpet heating, in-room tv, direct dial telephone, mini-bar, tea & coffee making facilities, overhead fans, safe in room, hairdryers.
Garden Cottages (2)
The Garden Cottages can also cater for guests with small children and consist of a downstairs area with en-suite bedroom with private patio area. Upstairs is a lounge with fold-out bed and a balcony with a view over the surrounding vineyards.
Garden Cottages facilities include full en-suite bathrooms with a range of amenities, shaver plugs, individual air-conditioning, in-room tv, direct dial telephone, mini-bar, tea & coffee making facilities, overhead fans, safe in room, hairdryers. Each have a patio downstairs and a balcony upstairs with a view over the surrounding vineyards.
Villa Suites (12)
The recently added luxurious Villa Suites offer discerning guests demanding opulence and space in a relaxed country setting. Arguably the best suites on offer in the winelands, the suites are each a total of 100sqm in size which include a separate lounge, bedroom and picturesque bathroom and 2 private balconies.
Entering into a welcome atmosphere of luxury and space the spacious lounge includes comfortable seating arrangements, an in-room dining facility, mini-bar, entertainment system with satellite tv, fireplace, air-conditioning, dvd player and music throughout the suite. The lounge also leads out onto a large private balcony with loungers to relax and enjoy the gardens and views.
The separate bedroom is luxuriously appointed with all the expected amenities and facilities, lush duvets, quality percale linnen and a choice of pillows to make you feel at home. The bedroom is also equipped with a separate air-conditioning which leads onto the second balcony.
The picturesque bathrooms with it's picture perfect layout includes stand-alone baths, separate shower, bidet and double basins with granite tops. Music in the bathroom and underfloor heating throughout completes the experience of luxury and indulgence!

Activities

Not surprising
when one considers that this fertile ground is where the French first
made wine in
South Africa 300 years
ago. Today, that
noble tradition is carried forward by the members of the Vignerons
de Franschhoek. Twenty-one wine farms, including some of South Africa’s
most respected names, who produce many of South Africa’s top
wines.
All the noble cultivars and classic
styles are on show here. From superb whites such as Sauvignon Blanc,
Chardonnay,
Semillon and Chenin
Blanc to the rich reds of Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Pinot Noir and
Merlot. Not to mention the valley’s renowned methode Cap Classique
Sparkling wines and Ports. And you’ll be happy to know most farms
readily welcome visitors for tastings.
But Franschhoek’s finer tastes don’t end with wine. The

In Franschhoek
it’s all about food & wine and if you are

Many of South Africa’s top restaurants and wine farms are in
Franschhoek and there are numerous options to choose from.

of them as close as a 5 minute drive and other a day’s trip.
Wine Tasting and Cellar Tours
There
are numerous wine farms in the Franschhoek Valley. The farms in Franschhoek
are all within
5-8km radius and, although
smaller farms,
they produce some of South Africa’s best wines. To visit these
wine farms is one of those “must do’s” during your
visit to our valley.
Paarl and Stellenbosch are also
very well known for their wines and wine routes and are well worth
the visit – they
are both a half an hours drive away from Franschhoek.
Places of Historical Interest
The Huguenot Monument and memorial museum is based in Franschhoek
and forms the focal point of the Franschhoek Valley. The museum serves
as a research, information and education centre on the Huguenots.
Horse Riding
The Mont Rochelle Equestrian Centre offers trail riding, wine tasting
on horseback and riding lessons with expert supervision and tuition.
They offer rides for the novice and the more experienced riders. Horse-drawn
carriage rides can also be arranged.
Shopping
The
Franschhoek Valley offers a wide variety of shopping opportunities,
all with in a five-minute
drive from Franschhoek Country
House: Jewellery
Shops, Farm Stalls, Boutiques, Arts & Crafts, Curios, Kei Carpets,
Galleries and Antique Shops and many more are all available in this
little village and is well worth the visit.
Approximately thirty minutes drive
from Franschhoek, one can also find Paarl or Stellenbosch with larger
shopping malls.

Ballooning
Hermanus
This
is a day’s trip and really worth the visit. On your way
there take the coastal route from Gordon’s Bay and return over
the Franschhoek pass from Villiersdorp. The scenery there and back
is worth the trip and Hermanus is a beautiful town. It is also known
as one of the best spots in the world for whale-watching - the months
of August to September is the best time.
Beaches
There
are numerous beaches only an hour’s drive from Franschhoek
at Strand and Gordon’s Bay. Most of these beaches are safe and
have lifeguards on duty. One can also visit the beaches around Cape
Town.
