LIGHTHOUSE EXCURSION
(Full-Day Tour)
Drive from the city along the Atlantic coastline to Hout Bay where we visit the World of Birds. This is one of Africa's largest bird parks with some 3000 birds and small animals. A tropical garden setting is the environment in which the aviaries are spaced over 4 hectares of land, framed by the back of Table Mountain, the Twelve Apostles, Chapman's Peak and Little Lion's Head. We stroll through the Monkey Jungle and make friends with the inquisitive little Squirrel Monkeys.
Drive along the spectacular Chapman's Peak drive to the Noordhoek Farm Village situated in the Noordhoek Valley. Set under the oaks the village has farm animals roaming the gardens.
We have lunch at the Food Barn a place for families to enjoy great food in a relaxed and beautiful setting. The food here is inspired by the sensual cooking skills of Franck Dangereux. While browsing through a classic from Keith's second hand books, watch kids make new friends in the play area.
Travel along the peninsula to Kommetjie where we meet the lighthouse keeper at Slangkop (snake head) lighthouse. This is the tallest cast-iron lighthouse on the South African coast. We learn all about the lighthouse, focal plane height being 41 meters above sea level with a range of 33 sea miles, and climb to the top, some 30m (98ft) above the crashing waves.
Return to the city in the late afternoon.
