Hotel Facilities
The Pezula Resort Hotel is a celebration of African elements
with hints of Bali, in overhanging roofs and sliding shutters. Upmarket,
distinctive, exceptional, luxurious, singular - words that describe the
Pezula Resort Hotel perfectly.
Elements of African art have been incorporated
into the design and décor, with warm African colors of red and gold
and earth tones predominating and contrasting with the softer shades
of the surrounding indigenous vegetation known as fynbos and the sea
environment in which the resort is built.
The games room is
a comfortable haven for the chess master or the beginner. The library
provides a quiet space for literary contemplation and exploration.
The wine cellar is stocked with the finest selections from South
Africa and afar. The Champagne Bar, Cigar Lounge and Whiskey Bar
are all a connoisseurs pleasure with world-class brands to suite
all palates. Zachary's gourmet restaurant is sure to tantalize all
taste buds with the freshest ingredients and eye-catching presentation.
For the executive, the fully equipped conference facilities are situated
in a separate wing of the hotel.
Champagne & Whiskey Bar
The Champagne Bar and Cigar Lounge is a seductive blend of delicate feminine
and robust masculine elements that has been enticing connoisseurs
and aficionados. The elegant salon is decorated in sensual textures
and opulent shades of cream and ivory, with sublime lighting - tiny
droplets rising to the sky, emulating the fine beads in your flute.
The Whiskey Bar offers over forty different whiskeys, from the finest
blends to "Ten year and older" single malts and an unusually
rich selection of Bourbon and Irish whiskies too.
Cigar Bar
The Cigar Menu caters to all preferences: Havanas include numerous top-end
cheroots; the Power Punch Grand Corona is a fine finale after a meal,
and the Romeo Y Julieta Exhibicion No 4 is a rare experience, rich
with tropical fruit aromas. Recommended for the conversationalist
is the easy draw of the Monte Cristo No 2 Torpedo; or ring the changes
with the Dominican flavour of the Davidoff Grand Cru No 5 Petiti
Corona. The pick of Belgian, Dutch, and South African cigars adds
even further variety.
Library & Games Room
The perfect environment for a leisurely read of one of the many carefully
selected books. Topics are South African, with appropriate information
to enhance the travel experience. The decor is an ethnic fusion with
modern touches. The fine finishes and traditional decorative forms
- pottery, woodwork or beadwork - have an evocative power, combining
African with sophistication and elegance. The rich veneer of dark
wood is used for furniture, joinery, frames and doors - the plentiful
use of this material being particularly appropriate as it links the
hotel with Knysna's illustrious timber-growing past.
Central & Front Lounges
Each facet of the hotel interior invites a moment to sit, relax and enjoy
the company of companions and new acquaintances. The central lounge
is a sunny sophisticated dramatic space with impressive solid timber
columns rising boldly upwards. The front lounge, by comparison, is
a calm space, perfect for a quiet retreat to reflect on the days
experiences. Softer tones of blues, beiges and natural soft touch
textures create a tranquil space.
The interiors dictate the look
and layout of the entire hotel. The architecture and furnishings
don't intrude, as the spectacular surroundings become the focal point,
constantly coaxing the eyes to the spaces beyond the structure. Design
is original and creative, with warm African colours of red, gold
and earth tones dominating with contrasting softer greens and blues
of the external environment.
Spa & Gym
Descending from the upper level of the Pezula Resort
Hotel, past a rock-faced wall of trickling water, with moss and ferns
enter an enchantingly beautiful world. Beyond the reeded glass, a waterfall
cascades into a 12m indoor heated pool that leads your eye outwards towards
a spectacular view.

Activities
Pezula is well known for its award winning Spa & Gym, the internationally
popular Championship Golf Course and the newly established Field
of Dreams which provides opportunity for tennis, cricket, golf,
archery, petanque, and various other outdoor games, as well as
leisure opportunities including horse riding, walking trails, canoeing
and beach activities.
Knysna provides endless opportunity for
a wide variety of sports. Mountain biking through indigenous forests
or scuba diving in the Indian ocean or the lagoon. Hire a kayak
or abseil above the ocean's crashing waves. Choose from action
packed adventures, such as quad biking, fly fishing, rock-and-surf
angling or deep-sea fishing, sand-boarding or kite-surfing on the
waters of the lagoon or even paragliding over the hills and lakes.
The Garden Route, South Africa's capital of golf, boasts more than
20 golf courses. All within driving distance of Knysna.
Tennis
Director of Sports for Pezula's Field of Dreams is former South African
number one tennis player, Gary Muller. His ultimate aim is to provide
a world-class facility for both beginners and professionals alike.
Coaching clinics will form a major part of the tennis programme,
with private coaching (booked in advance) also an option. All equipment
and balls will be provided if necessary. The four all-weather courts
include a sunken court with seating for 700 spectators, creating
the perfect environment for guests and members to simply enjoy some
friendly tennis or for exciting exhibition matches.
Horse Riding
The horses on Pezula are immaculately schooled, responding to the slightest
command - verbal or physical. They are Cape Riding horses - working
horses with unwavering stamina. For a skilled rider their willingness,
combined with soft mouths and eager responsiveness, make them a ride
of a lifetime. For a novice rider, the experience is just the same
as their even temperament, calm demeanour and easy handling put even
the most nervous riders at ease. Breathe in the fresh air as you
ride along the coast, through dense fynbos and truly indigenous Knysna
forest. A perfect way to view elusive bush buck, soaring birds and
for the lucky, a bush pig in the dense undergrowth of pristine forest.
Nature Trails & Birding
The walking trails through fynbos and Knysna forest, are well marked
and maintained. Numerous bird species can be spotted and various
trails are on offer with the accompaniment of an experienced guide.
Cleared of alien trees and vegetation
and a controlled burning programme has encouraged the regrowth of fynbos
and afromontane forests as well as a huge increase in surface water
and the emergence of wildlife including birds and soft skin animals.
When the project is complete, over a million alien trees will have
been removed from the area.
A comprehensive survey undertaken over
the past two years at Pezula Private Estate has shown that certain
bird species are returning to the areas that have been rehabilitated.
These are mainly species that inhabit indigenous fynbos. During the
first phase of this project, 112 species of birds have been identified
on the Estate.
Canoeing
Two-man Canadian canoes are available for short paddles up the Noetzie
river, or for day rentals for a more leisurely experience. These
canoes are easy to handle and manoeuvre, with short paddles. Canoeing
up the mystical Noetzie River combines complete relaxation as you
drift along the still water, with the rush of seeing nature at its
most beautiful. As the dense natural forest dips its roots into the
cool waters, birds call and flit by overhead and bush buck dart in
and out of the dappled shade.
Swimming
Two heated pools - one with a spectacular view of the lagoon on the hotel
terrace and one in the relaxing environment of the Spa - provide
an alternative to a splash in the Indian Ocean at the pristine Noetzie
beach. A third heated outdoor swimming pool is available at the entrance
to the Private Estate. For sand and wave lovers, Noetzie beach is
a haven of bird and sea life. Take a leisurely stroll along the shore
or a refreshing swim in the ocean. Spot the protected Black Oystercatcher
and for the lucky - a school of jumping dolphins or a pod of frolicking
whales.
Golf
The Pezula Championship Golf Course is perched above the Indian Ocean
and the Knysna lagoon. It is a sweeping spectacle of fairways and
greens rolling through the pristine southern cape landscape. Flanked
by indigenous forest, flora and unforgettable vistas, the course
offers players both a challenging and rewarding golf experience.
Field of Dreams
The Pezula Field of Dreams will offer a wealth of outdoor activities
- and in the near future, a fully equipped gym and a 25m swimming
pool. Current facilities include a tennis complex, international
sized cricket oval, the academy of golf, archery, Petanque, softball,
Ultimate Frisbee, volleyball and various other outdoor games.
The Field of Dreams also encompasses
numerous leisure opportunities, including horse riding, walking trails,
canoeing and beach activities. Pezula Private Estate residents with
shares, hotel guests and share holders will be able to take part in
the games and sports listed above. As well as international cricket
matches, the Oval could even be used for large-scale music performances.
Knysna
Knysna boasts more than 240 terrestrial and marine species, 40 pelagic
species and some of the rarest and the most beautiful birds you'll
ever see - African black oystercatchers, Knysna warblers, Knysna
loeries and malachite kingfishers.
Knysna provides endless opportunity
for a wide variety of sports. High-speed mountain biking through
indigenous forests or dive the Indian ocean or the lagoon. Hire a
