LAKE PLEASANT
HOTEL & SPA -
KNYSNA DISTRICT, THE GARDEN ROUTE
The Garden Route, a panoramic
region idyllically placed between the Indian Ocean and the Outeniqua
and Tsitsikamma mountains, is home
to Lake Pleasant Hotel & Spa in the Knysna district. This charming
property, built on the edge of one of the few natural freshwater
lakes in the southern hemisphere, is a serene retreat set in the
picturesque Goukamma Nature and Marine Reserve.
Lake Pleasant Hotel & Spa
(5-Star) has 36 luxurious en-suite rooms all with their own balcony
overlooking
the beautiful
Groenvlei lake. Nestling between verdant hills, lakes, indigenous forests
and unspoilt beaches, this is an area of incomparable beauty. Appetizing
contemporary modern cuisine is prepared from the freshest produce, flavoured
and garnished using fresh herbs. A la carte menus marvelously display
the chef's intrinsic culinary talent and exclusive award winning wines
tempt even the most jaded palate.
Afternoon high tea is a decadent delight. For the romantic, picnic baskets
filled with delicious delicacies can be ordered for the beach at sunrise,
or sunset, or anywhere in-between. The dining experience would be incomplete
without aromatic coffees, decadent desserts, warming cognacs, fragrant
cigars and friendly attentive service.
Even if you never set foot outside
the boundaries of the Lake Pleasant Hotel & Spa, there is enough
to keep you busy for days on end. Situated on the shores of Groenvlei,
in the Bird Sanctuary
of the Goukamma Nature
and Marine Reserve, the possibilities are endless.
The hotel was originally established
in 1895 as a hunting lodge. |

The Lake Pleasant Spa
The Wellness Centre has an indoor heated spa pool, steam and sauna rooms,
a Vichy shower and a hydrotherapy bath. Therapies range from a firm Swedish massage and an eclectic Jamu relaxing
massage to the more exotic and revitalising Bali Spa rituals. These rituals
incorporate the Javanese Lulur - a sensuous body ritual that exfoliates,
polishes and pampers - the Volcanic Earth Ritual - a purifying and refreshing
ritual that purifies and cools the body. Take some time out to relax
and rejuvenate at the Wellness Centre on the lake.
Activities
Leisure activities in this spectacularly scenic area include bird
watching, fishing, horse riding, mountain biking, hiking trails and whale
and dolphin watching. Only a short drive from the Hotel are six famous
golf courses, the Cango Caves, ostrich and cheetah farms at Oudsthoorn;
as well as the many attractions of George and Plettenberg Bay. One of
the major features at Lake Pleasant is a fully equipped Wellness Centre,
ideally suited for mid-week, weekend or any day breakaways for a bit
of serious pampering or intense relaxation essential for the overworked
and stressed.
The natural freshwater lake, Groenvlei,
once home to hippos, provides visitors with excellent fishing, sailing
and boating
opportunities. This
scenic lake is a haven for birds such as the Brownhooded Kingfisher and
Darter. Open Land Rover nature drives and guided nature walks through
the dense woodland of the indigenous Milkwood forests in the adjacent
pristine Goukamma Nature and Marine Reserve can be arranged. Outstanding
views of the rugged coastline and fine displays of fynbos make this a
memorable experience. The reserve supports prolific birdlife and a variety
of lichen, grasses and majestic Milkwood trees. Rare African Black Oystercatchers
are a breathtaking site skimming over the ocean. Cruises are on offer
on the hotel's private boat “Yellowbill”.
Nearby Attractions
