THE PEECH
HOTEL - MELROSE, JOHANNESBURG
The Peech was originally a private residence, built for a member of the Dambusters who settled in South Africa in the 1950's. When discovered by James Peech, the property had been in one family's hands for over 40 years.
James purchased the property in 2003, and spent the next two years getting the zoning and the financing to open an initial 6 rooms. The hotel officially opened on 27th November 2004 followed a few months later by the bistro. The hotel grew with a further 4 rooms in 2006 and 6 rooms in 2008. The hotel now has 16 rooms and is proud to retain many staff members who started in 2004.

Dining and
Cuisine
Boutique Hotel Bistro
Our bistro is run by head chef Greg Jardim, and Robert Chifunyise our wine buyer. Overlooking the hotel's pool & landscaped gardens, the bistro features sandstone floors, deep leather couches and a walk-in wine cellar.
Greg regularly changes his menu whose focus is on flavour and simplicity: "I've tried to create a menu that reflects what The Peech is all about: simple, laid-back and chic with an understated touch of sophistication". Greg's aim is to use locally-sourced suppliers and ingredients that are as organic as possible. He is working on a kitchen garden outside Room 15 which will supply herbs and vegetables to his kitchen.
Sustainability
The hotel has a sustainability policy that is centered on recycling, energy conservation and green design. We have implemented a range of measures, some hi-impact like installing solar geysers throughout the hotel, others low-impact such as using rechargeable batteries, that ensure our footprint is kept to a minimum. Recycling is a priority and with a Bokashi wet waste facility and recycling bins for paper, glass & tin little waste leaves the hotel for landfills.
We are currently on the Green Leaf Environmental Standard program that should see us certified in March 2012. We have also undertaken a study on our carbon footprint with Greener Future that will enable us to explore carbon neutrality.
