Kurland Luxury Country Hotel, an exclusive Polo Estate near Plettenberg Bay on the Garden RouteSet amidst emerald green pastures where the foothills of the Outeniqua mountains sweep down to the warm waters of the Indian Ocean, lies Kurland, the luxury country hotel, established by the Baroness Dianne Behr on the age-old Behr family estate near Plettenberg Bay, along the famous Garden Route.

Guests will enjoy peace and relaxation in the beautifully appointed and tranquil reception and sitting rooms of a truly hand-made hotel. Although established in the old Cape Dutch tradition, the hotel is completely modern in all other respects and is surrounded by immaculate polo fields and adjacent stables which form part of the estate.

The tastefully decorated rooms display some enviable objects d'art, antique furniture and original oils. Whether bathed in cheerful sunshine or warmly lit by lamps and firelight, they add a languid glamour to Kurland's spacious, comfortable interiors.

Known by their proximities to the rose garden or the paddocks, each of the individually styled en-suite bedrooms is a separate living area, with comfortable couches, telephone, satellite television, and mini bars.

Guests have a wide range of activities to choose from including tennis, boating, horse riding and cycling. The hotel also boasts a health spa complete with gym, sauna, steam room and plunge pool for those in need of extra pampering.

Kurland has twelve tastefully decorated and spacious rooms - designed to cater for the guests every comfort with large spaces, comfortable sofas and embossed linen on the beds. Ceiling fans ensure that guests are kept cool in the hot summers and large fireplaces can be used in the winter months. The spacious bathrooms are equipped with heated towel rails and underfloor heating.

The rooms are individually styled and display some enviable objects d'art, antique furniture and original oil paintings. For the convenience of guests all rooms have telephones, satellite television and mini bars. Eight of the rooms have private plunge pools. Ten of the bedrooms have loft rooms especially designed for children.

Elegant x 2
Accommodates 2 adults. Rooms have a garden patio.

Luxury with loft x 6
Accommodates 2 adults (downstairs) and 2 children (loft). Rooms have a private courtyard and a patio.
2 rooms: internal staircase to the loft. 4 rooms: external staircase to the loft. The two Luxury rooms with internal lofts interlead into each other.

Superior with loft x 4
Accommodates 2 adults (downstairs) and 3 children (loft). Private plunge pool and staircase to the loft. Private plunge pool and veranda.
2 rooms: internal staircase to the loft. 4 rooms: external staircase to the loft.
The two Superior rooms (with external lofts) interlead into each other. As do the two Superior rooms with internal lofts above them. The two rooms interlead into each other.

Summary
Of the 12 rooms there are 4 pairs of interleading rooms. The only 4 rooms which do not interlead are the 4 Luxury rooms with external lofts above them.

PLAYROOM: Children’s playroom with TV, DVD, games and toys available for children for 2 – 16 years (or the young at heart).
POOLS: In addition to the main hotel pool there is a special pool area for children to swim and play offering a full pool and a second splash pool for the little ones.
SMALLS: Children’ mountain bikes and small ponies for riding are available for families to enjoy together.
ROOMS: All loft rooms are equipped for children and provide an ideal hideaway and play area as well as a comfortable bedroom with child friendly facilities and amenities.
MEALS: Early dinners and special menus are available in a children conservatory.
BABYSITTERS: Trained baby sitters are available, please request on booking.
ARRANGED ACTIVITIES: During high season child minders arrange special activities.

Facilities
Relax into the pastoral mood of Kurland in a comfortable chair on the spacious, shaded verandah, or stretch out on a recliner by the palm fringed, sparkling pool. A full bar service with snacks is available. Kurland's well stocked library includes internet and e-mail facilities for those who require them.

Kurland's modern health spa includes a fully equipped gymnasium, sauna, steam bath and plunge pool. Beauty treatments are available on request and a masseuse is available for those who want a massage.

Tennis and horse riding and in season polo matches are also part of the daily activities as are visits to the fabulous sandy beaches nearby and walks through the vast estate and over lush polo fields.

Dining
Simple flavoursome cuisine is served at breakfast, lunch and dinner in the dining room or in the adjacent courtyard. A full bar service with snacks is available. There are also many other restaurants in Plettenberg Bay for alternative dining.

Activities
Should you feel the urge to work off your sumptuous farm breakfast, relax after a horseback ride or a game of tennis, or simply pamper your deserving self, you need look no further than the hotel's health spa. It includes a fully equipped gymnasium, sauna, steam bath and plunge pool. Beauty treatments and massages are available at the Hotel spa.

Or visit the state of the art stables and magnificent polo ponies waiting in anticipation of polo matches between players of international standing, and participate in the excitement.

Plettenberg Bay and the surrounding area abounds with facilities for activities such as whale-watching, sunset horse trails, golfing at the country's best courses, black water rafting and much more.

Close to Kurland - the following can easily be arranged:

The spa at Kurland has a steam room and sauna, and provides a variety of massages, facials and other health and beauty treatments. Kurland also has a tennis court and fully equipped gym. For the children there is a large playroom as well as an outdoor play area with heated pools and an adventure playground. Childcare facilities are provided.

The airport at Plettenberg Bay is 20km from the hotel and has daily flights to and from Johannesburg. George Airport has regular flights to and from Cape Town and is a 75 minute drive from the hotel.

Conferences
The Polo Room in The Pavilion at Kurland measures 10m by 8m with a ceiling height of 3m. Situated on the main polo field about 1km from the hotel, the Pavilion enjoys wraparound views of the mountains, polo fields and paddocks.

With an adjoining lounge and bar and dining area, The Pavilion also has a large wooden deck suitable for tea breaks and drinks.

Equipped with audio-visual equipment such as a flipchart, whiteboard, overhead projector, screen, video projector and video machine, the conference room accommodates a minimum of 8 and a maximum of 15 delegates seated in a U shape.

Weddings
The Pavilion is available as a venue for wedding receptions, anniversaries and other functions in conjunction with the reservation of all twelve hotel rooms. There is no extra charge for the hire of The Pavilion.
Kurland simply provides the use of The Pavilion (or its surrounding grounds) as a venue. All other services should be supplied by the wedding organizers e.g. crockery and cutlery, tables and chairs, staffing and catering, or a marquee (if the numbers are too large for The Pavilion itself). A full list of resources is available from Kurland to assist you in planning a function.

Polo and Ponies at Kurland
Kurland is a 700 ha estate consisting of a small luxury hotel and a polo complex.

The polo complex comprises four boarded fields, a 50m x 100m polo arena, fully equipped stables and veterinary clinic, and a one kilometer sand exercise track and paddocks for up to 300 horses. Experienced grooms care for the horses and a vet and farrier are permanently on standby.

The large white-roofed Polo Pavilion with a restaurant, bar and children's playroom a restaurant and bar as well as changeroom facilities caters to the well being of players and spectators alike.

Other facilities include a wooden horse with specially mounted audio-visual equipment to analyse one's polo swing. Individual professional polo tuition is available from resident 4 goal professionals George Morgan, Matt Pohl and Richard Pohl.

Professionally trained ponies are provided to meet the needs of any level of player. Ponies are also for sale, on request. Players should come equipped with their own helmets, mallets, boots and polo clothing. Mallets may also be purchased at The Kurland Shop.

Kurland also has an extensive network of soft roads through forests and pastures for leisure riding.
