HIPPO HOLLOW, HAZYVIEW, MPUMALANGA, SOUTH AFRICA
Hippo Hollow Country Estate is situated outside Hazyview on the Sabie River between the Drakensberg Mountains to the West and the low-lying bushveld to the east. It is the ideal destination from which to access the reserves of the Lowveld and the sites of Mpumalanga. Nestled amongst lush indigenous gardens, the estate is only ten minutes from the world famous Kruger National Park.

Retreat in comfort to one of the 37 thatched semi self-catering chalets, 26 hotel rooms or 28 deluxe rooms, which either overlook the picturesque gardens with its two swimming pools or the mighty Sabi River.

Nestled amongst lush indigenous gardens on the banks of the Sabie River in Hazyview, only ten minutes from the world famous Kruger National Park. Hippo Hollow has an “Out of Africa” feel about it, and leaves you feeling totally relaxed and refreshed. There are two large central swimming pools - a welcome respite on those hot Lowveld days. For the arts and crafts lovers, there is a well stocked curio shop.

Hippo Hollow Country Estate has a large conference centre with full banqueting facilities and all standard conference equipment.

Dining and Cuisine
Dine in the a la carte restaurant on a variety of mouth-watering dishes. Enjoy a selection of South African wines from our wine cellar whilst watching the sight of kingfishers and other beautiful water birds, as well as the grazing of the hippopotamus on our lawn against the backdrop of a glorious sunset.

Activities
Kruger National Park
Open vehicle safaris venture into South Africa’s largest and world famous game reserve, the Kruger National Park, in a specifically modified open vehicle. Only 10 minutes from Hippo Hollow.

Golf
Sabie River Bungalows Golf Club
Sabie River Bungalows Golf Club just outside Hazyview. Situated along the Sabie River, nature trails and abundant bird life make it a great destination for golfers and their families. Facilities include: 18 hole golf course, halfway house, bar, restaurant and pro-shop.

Kruger Park Lodge
Kruger Park Lodge is situated along the banks of the Sabie River, just 10 minutes from the Kruger National Park. Enjoy a walk or trail and a sundowner in the boma on the riverbank after a hard day of play (includes 9 hole, 18 tee golf course).

Panorama Tour
The Sabie River Valley is an area rich in history and incredible views and abundant wildlife. Activities include marvelling at Mpumalanga’s spectacular scenery from God’s Window, the quaint and historic town of Pilgrim’s Rest or exploring the waterfalls and rock formations at Bourke’s Luck Potholes.

Moholoholo Rehabilitation Centre
An extremely informative and exciting tour of an African wildlife rehabilitation centre. 2 tours daily (09h00 & 15h00) offer close views of lion, leopard, servals, caracals, honey badgers, eagles and vultures.

Balloon Safaris
Before sunrise, travel to the launch site to help prepare the giant balloon for its launch into the awakening sky for a 1 hour balloon ride.

River Rafting
An adrenalin adventure travelling along the scenic Sabie River through dense wooded vegetation and rapids. For the more adventurous there is a 35m abseil.

Reptile Park
The nearby reptile park includes crocodiles, alligators, pythons, 50 different types of snakes, frogs, lizards, tortoises and plenty more to capture the interest of the children.

Plus many more activities including hiking, fishing, and country shopping.

Shangaan River Club
Immerse yourself with a feast of culture with a night of Shangaan Dance and song at the Shangaan River Club. Let the African Spirit entertain you, your family, and your group of friends or staff members.

The Shangaan River Club welcomes all to the festivities under the thatched boma where song, dance, verse and magnificent food all together form a feast in the true sense of the word.

• Joint venture community project with local aids orphanage.
• Learn of the rich heritage and customs of the Shangaan people.
• Welcome drink of local maize beer.
• Take part in a customary hand washing ritual.
• Sangoma on hand for those interested in traditional African healing.
• Cultural songs and dances performed by local aids orphans.
• Narrated folk stories by Chief.
• Traditional Shangaan cuisine.
• Maximum number the boma can hold is 175 people.
• Dinner is subject to availability.
• Starts at 18h30 (no specific day 3 / 4 times a week.
• Reservations are essential.

Elephant Whispers
Witness their intelligence, their compassionate nature and sheer delight of interacting with their human counterparts.

The interaction with the elephant offers you the opportunity to touch the elephant, exchange trunk greetings and offer tasty treats.

Enjoy a difference perspective while embarking on a journey, which was a privilege, reserved only for kings!

Helicopter Flights
Swoop over deep and mysterious gorges, linger above roaring rivers and cascading waterfalls, and view the fascinating and dramatic rock formations of the Blyde River Canyon.
