CONSTANTIA UITSIG COUNTRY HOTEL - CONSTANTIA VALLEY (CAPE WINELANDS), SOUTH AFRICA
Constantia Uitsig, meaning Constantia View is aptly named for its unique position which offers wide vistas of the Table Mountain range, sea and vineyards. Enjoy peace and tranquility on a working wine farm a mere 20 minutes from the city centre of Cape Town.

Situated on the slopes of the Constantiaberg, the historic Constantia Uitsig Wine Farm offers you traditional Cape hospitality in rural seclusion. Guests will marvel at the fertile valley with its 360-degree vista of the vineyards, mountains and sea.

Here in the first wine producing region of South Africa the wines which met with Napoleon's approval were made. Indeed, noble cultivars such as Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot still flourish here.

Constantia Uitsig Country Hotel is internationally recognized for its high standards and personalised service and offers gracious accommodation in 16 individually furnished garden suites. Lunch and dinner... experience fine dining cuisine on the Farm at the two award winning restaurants, La Colombe and Constantia Uitsig Restaurant.

In the shade of century-old oaks you will find our restaurant, a delightful example of spacious farm architecture. In keeping with its Huguenot heritage, the gracious restaurants expertly prepare widely varied Mediterranean Provencale cuisine.

Facilities and Activities
Facilities on the farm include a guest lounge and bar, swimming pools, walks in the vineyards, horse-riding, wine tasting, picnics, cricket oval and helicopter flips. Hiking in the mountains or vineyards and day trips to the Cape Point Nature Reserve are all favourite past times and Cape Town and Stellenbosch are just 15 and 50 minutes away by car respectively.

The Special Functions and Conference Venue
This private venue with its own dedicated Chef and Kitchen facilities, facing the magnificent Constantiaberg Mountains and vineyards, offers a luxurious setting for many occasions, each carefully tailored to suit your requirements.

The private lawn frontage can accommodate wedding ceremonies or pre-drinks. Launches, lunches, weddings and other special occasions are catered for at this delightful venue, where the cuisine and setting are complemented by the charm of the serving staff, and where a cigar or cognac can be enjoyed in the cosy bar area.

Conference delegates can enjoy a sophisticated venue allowing them to focus on the business at hand in tranquil surroundings, only 20 minutes away from the city centre and waterfront.

The Constantia Uitsig Cricket Oval
The Constantia Uitsig Cricket Oval plays host to international teams and is available to local players and businesses for incentives, launches, team building, meetings or a day spent with family and friends. After cricket matches or for any other occasion, guests can enjoy delicious fish, spit or traditional braais (barbeques) under the poplar trees.

The delightful Victorian styled cricket pavilion with its poplar surrounded oval is renowned by cricket connoisseurs as the most picturesque of grounds with its delightful Victorian Styled Pavillion.

Dining
Each restaurant at Constantia Uitsig Estate - Constantia Uitsig, La Colombe and the Spaanschemat River Café - has it own distinctive and clearly defined style, but what they all have in common is inspiration, passion, adventure, art.

Constantia Uitsig Restaurant
Housed in the original Cape Dutch Homestead and offering breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and vineyards, Constantia Uitsig Restaurant under the expert hand of the Head Chef, Frank Swainston has earned an international reputation for emanating a stylish, yet relaxed atmosphere and promising a memorable dining experience.

Frank believes in combining local and international flavours to create an unique culinary experience, complemented by your choice of award winning wines. “I like simple food, prepared with thought, love and care. That’s our secret at Constantia Uitsig.” - Frank Swainston.

La Colombe Restaurant
La Colombe Restaurant was again voted the Top Restaurant in South Africa for the second consecutive year by Business Day, the National morning newspaper. Tucked away under gigantic palms and oak trees, La Colombe exudes a rustic charm and is housed in the completely restructured guest breakfast room with direct frontage onto the pristine blue swimming pool and its manicured garden surround. As Franck Dangereux, Head Chef says, “A meal should stimulate more than just the sense of taste – it must be a visual experience too."

La Colombe’s menu – written up in French on a blackboard and translated, like poetry, by the waiting staff – changes every day, depending on what’s available. The food is always sensual, stylish, distinctly French. “I use local ingredients, cooked the french way.” Says Franck.

Spaanschemat River Café
Adventurous flavour combinations and gorgeous presentation - the accent being on fresh and healthy eating. All this whilst seated in a tranquil garden setting with views of the Constantiaberg Mountains.

"Coffee shop it can be, if you want it, but it's also a restaurant of rare sophistication" - Shirley Grace

Wines
Constantia Uitsig is situated in the historic Constantia Valley, where wine farming originated in South Africa. Surrounded by mountains, this beautiful valley is blessed with moderate temperatures, excellent soils, good rainfall and cooling sea breezes from two close-by oceans making it the ideal area for growing top class grapes and world renowned wines.

Simon Van der Stel recognized the wine growing potential here over 300 years ago when he established the first wine farms of South Africa in the Constantia Valley. Napoleon drank Constantia Wines when he was incarcerated on St Helena in the early 1800’s.

David and Marlene McKay bought the farm in 1988 and have restored it to its former glory. Wine farming has been revived after careful research and planning by the Wine Director, Andre Badenhorst. With 40 hectares under cultivation, the farm produces award winning wines including Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Semillon, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.

Although the first wines were only produced six years ago, accolades for the Constantia Uitsig Wines already include Veritas Gold and Double Gold awards, Michelangelo awards and Silver at the London International Wine Challenge.

Constantia Uitsig Wine Shop
While in the heart of Constantia, you can visit one of the most beautiful wine estates in the world and purchase the finest wines from over 60 Cape estates all under one roof, including Constantia Uitsig's own wines and the surrounding valley wines, all in the most agreeable of surroundings. Under the expert guidance of Kathy Cassells, Constantia Uitsig Wine Shop will be happy to advise you on which wines to serve at your next function, be it in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban, London, New York or Paris. Yes, deliveries can be arranged to most cities in South Africa and overseas.

Group tastings of the Constantia Uitsig award winning wines can be scheduled for groups of up to 40 people.
