WEST COAST
(Private
Full-Day Tour)
Depart the city and drive to Bloubergstrand Beach to capture the
classic picture-postcard views of Cape Town and Table Mountain from across the Bay.
Continue north along the Atlantic coast to the West Coast National Park,
situated around the Langebaan Lagoon, a rare biome formed by prehistoric
changes in sea levels. Home to a rich food web comprising a staggering 550 invertebrate
species, it is also a paradise for some 55,000 birds that gather here each year
- many migrating from Northern climes to breed.
We may spend time at one of the many bird hides in this RAMSAR International
Wetland-listed site, with the chance to spot some of the more than 150
bird species recorded, including Lesser and Greater Flamingos and countless wading
birds.
We visit the information centre at Geelbek, a historic farm and national monument
and, during spring (Aug. - Sept.) drive through a private section of the park
to see Bontebok, Eland and Zebra grazing amidst vast carpets of spring
blooms,
a feature for which this landscape is famous.
After lunch, return to the city, pausing to view the Moravian Mission Station at Mamre, and possibly, stopping off at the West
Coast Ostrich Farm or Fossil
Park en route.
