Day 5 - Bartholomeus Klip
Day 1
Arrival in Cape Town and transfer to your accommodation at Kensington Place Guest House or similar.
Day 2
Start your day with a City orientation followed by light lunch at one of Cape Town's many unique eateries. Then don aprons for a Classic Cape Fare Cooking Afternoon with one of Cape Town's gourmet chefs in an exclusive location. Guests will take part in preparing the meal and then sit down together to enjoy it, with an informal tasting of local Cape wines.
A sample menu might include: Crayfish tails with saffron flamed in Cape brandy served with greens, mango, goat's cheese and pinenuts; spiced prawns on a classic Cape Malay fish breyani; Chermoula crusted Karoo lamb cutlets with roasted butternut wedges and gingered sweet potato mash, finished off with malva puddings, cinnamon custard and brandied oranges. Overnight in Cape Town.
Day 3
Enjoy a food-inspired Peninsula tour with your guide, beginning the experience with a visit to one of Cape Town's well-known Malay spice traders to select some of the essential ingredients of Cape cooking. The Malay peoples, exiled to the Cape from Dutch colonies in the East in the 17th & 18th centuries have contributed richly to the Cape table, with a cuisine that is a fascinating fusion of East and West, combining exotic flavours, unique African produce and meats such as ostrich and game with the culinary inspiration of old Europe and the New World.
Continue south down the Peninsula in search of the rest of our ingredients, stopping at a picturesque fishing harbour along the coastline for fresh landed fish, sold at a local quayside market.
With fresh supplies in hand, proceed to your cooking venue - an exclusive location overlooking the ocean - to join a local chef in the preparation of a Cape seafood lunch. Your meal (dependent on the fresh catch) will be accompanied by local wines, coffee and cheese.
After lunch, return to the city via the scenic coastline. Overnight in Cape Town.
Day 4
Drive to the Cape Winelands for wine tasting and a light lunch at Fairview Estate, then continue to Bartholomeus Klip, a small, beautifully restored Victorian homestead in the wheatlands of the Swartland. Enjoy a lavish afternoon tea on the veranda, then head off on a game drive. Stop to enjoy snacks and sundowners in the adjoining nature reserve (weather permitting) then return to the house for a 3-course gourmet dinner. The food is a delicious mix of French traditional with a local flavour and uses some of the estate's fresh produce and herbs. Sample the local wines at dinner. Overnight at Bartholomeus Klip.
Day 5
Begin your day with morning coffee or tea and mid morning pastries, then depart on a morning game drive. Alternatively, choose a walk, cycle or enjoy boating and fishing on the farm's huge dam. Mid morning brunch is served from 10am at the Boathouse. Then join chef Louise and her team to learn some of the farm's kitchen specialties. Guests will receive a Bartholomeus Klip apron and recipe cards to remember their stay. After the demonstration, drive over to the small town of Riebeeck-Kasteel, 20 minutes away to enjoy some of the local produce, including fine olives and oils. The valley has an abundance of interesting eateries, bistros art and craft shops and boutiques as well as the Jan Smuts Museum.
Return to Bartholomeus Klip for another scrumptious dinner and final overnight .
Day 6
Depart for Cape Town.
