The
Ultimate Southern Africa Adventure Safari
Adrenalin adventures in Southern Africa - any
duration
If adventure and adrenalin is what you
are looking for then Southern Africa is packed with wonderful options.
The Ultimate Adventure Safari detailed below is a suggested safari
itinerary that can be customized to suit each person's interests, time
frame and budget.
We start in the Cape with a walk or climb up Cape
Town's Table Mountain, followed by a rappel down. Two hours east along the coast of South Africa
is Grootbos Lodge in prime Great White Shark diving (in cages) country.
Grootbos also has excellent whale watching during the South
Africa's winter months.
Moving north up to Namibia is the Palmwag Reserve - home to the desert-adapted
Black Rhino. Working with the "Save the Rhino Trust" trackers, guests
will follow the Rhinos on foot in the stunningly beautiful landscape.
The next stop is Botswana's Okavango Delta for a two-night walking
and camping safari combined with mokoros (dugout canoes) through the
vast network of waterways in the Xigera area. This is a superb old-time
safari, exploring a wetland paradise and camping on remote islands.
See further details on the Xigera Mokoro Trail at Xigera
Camp.
Just north of the Okavango Delta, in the Linyanti Reserve, is Savuti
Camp and its famous "woodpile hide" next to a very busy
waterhole which is especially popular with the endless herds of Elephant
in this area. At times, guests are no more than a few feet away from
massive herds of Elephant, breathing in the scents and dust - up close
and personal!
Victoria Falls is the next stop on this adventure safari. You'll take
a one-day white water rafting trip on the famous Zambezi River. Rafting
on the Zambezi is considered by many to be the best on the world. There
are twenty rapids graded between three and six that have huge stopper
waves with names like "Muncher" and "Oblivion". The
bungi jump off the Victoria Falls bridge is amazing; until very recently,
the 111 metre plunge towards the Zambezi River was considered the highest
commercial jump in the world. Highest or not, it is truly a heart-stopping
thrill second to none!
Mana Pools National Park, downstream from the Falls and well into Zimbabwe
along the Zambezi River, is wild country and home to the Mana Canoe
Trail. In three wild days, you will canoe past at least twelve
hundred Hippos, see herds of Elephant VERY close up, and have the chance
to track Lion, Leopard and Wild Dog on foot.
The safari concludes with a stay at Rocktail Bay Lodge in Maputaland,
South Africa for some amazing scuba diving. The waters off the coast
at Rocktail are as remote and pristine as you will find anywhere in
the world. The reefs at Rocktail Bay offer prime fish dives and through
the year there are opportunities to see various Dolphins, Whales, Turtles,
and Sharks including the world's largest fish, the Whale Shark!
