Travelling Times and Distances
All travelling times are affected by road conditions, border crossings, detours and weather conditions, therefore on certain days travelling times may be longer than anticipated especially where there is a lot of distance to be covered. Please keep in mind that the time it takes to travel 100 km in your home country is not equivalent to the time it takes to travel 100 km on African roads, therefore we encourage you to sit back and enjoy the spectacular scenery Africa has to offer. Where possible additional stops will be made to ensure your travelling comfort at all times.

Accommodation
For our accommodated safaris, we make use of typical, mid-range African standard lodge accommodation. Preventative Malaria medication should be taken before the trip and throughout its duration and it is advisable to consult a doctor prior to departure. Yellow Fever vaccinations are compulsory – please contact your Travel Clinic before departure.

This does not include photographic equipment and a small daypack. Please bring soft-sided luggage (e.g. a backpack or soft barrel bag), not a suitcase. Don't bring too much clothing, as there are washing opportunities along the way. Please adhere to the allowance specified as space for luggage is limited.

Visas
The onus is on the client to organize all visas required for a visit to Kenya prior to departure.

Information on Areas Visited
KENYA
Few countries can match the combination of a mild and equable climate, magnificent landscapes and superb wildlife reserves and national parks. More than 40 different ethnic groups with different origins and languages form a mix of cultures and traditions. The country is bordered to the north by Sudan and Ethiopia and Somalia to the north-east; to the west by Uganda and to the south by Tanzania. The eastern border is the Indian Ocean. The Equator cuts through the middle and in the course of a Kenya safari may be crossed more than once.

Kenya's splendid national parks and game reserves are as varied as the people. The vastness of Tsavo compares with the celebrated and more verdant Maasai Mara, famous for its lions and abundance of species. The Maasai Mara is where, around July and August, nature's most exciting spectacle begins and lasts until October. Hundreds of thousands of wildebeest, with attendant zebra, gazelle and predators migrate into the Mara from neighboring Serengeti to mate and continue their journey back to Tanzania to calve. The Mara is one of the very few places in the world where the visitor stands a good chance of seeing and photographing the legendary Big Five in a single trip: buffalo, elephant, leopard, lion and rhino, to which may be added the elegant and vulnerable cheetah.

Nairobi, the country's capital city, is a sophisticated and cosmopolitan centre where one may shop, dine well and stay at hotels as well appointed as anywhere in the world.

Amboseli National Reserve
Amboseli National Park is situated near the border of Kenya and Tanzania in the south east region of Kenya about 250 kms from Nairobi. Magnificent views of snow-capped Kilimanjaro greet visitors from anywhere in the park. The best time to see it, however, is early morning or just around sunset as it's more than likely it will be cloaked in clouds during the day. Africa's highest mountain erupted millions of years ago spewing volcanic rock across the plains. The park takes it's name from the Masai word meaning "salty dust". Year round springs which filter down from the snows and glaciers of the mountain provide an excellent source of water for the numerous species of wildlife in the park as well as habitat for water fowl. The largest elephants in Africa live here and on some mornings over 600 have been counted in the swamps where the bird life is also colourful and prolific. There are resident zebra and wildebeest as well as Thompson's gazelle, warthog, giraffe, vervet monkeys, baboon and black-backed jackal. It's possible to arrange a visit to a nearby manyatta or Maasai village and see how these fascinating and proud people conduct their daily lives.

Aberdares National Park
Aberdares National Park covers the higher areas of the Aberdare Mountain Ranges of Central Kenya, from altitude of 1829M to 4001M above sea level. The topography is quite diverse with deep ravines that cut through the forested eastern and western slopes. Animals easily observed in the park include; the Black Rhino, leopard, baboon, black and white Colobus monkey and sykes monkey. Rarer sightings include those of lions, the golden cat and the bongo- an elusive forest antelope that lives in the bamboo forest. Aberdares National Park comprises of "Tree-Hotels" overlooking a floodlit water-hole and salt lick which attracts a host of wildlife. The lodges are designed with "decks" from which numerous balconies and lounges provide superb vantage points for game viewing from the comfort of the lodges viewing deck

Ol Pejeta Conservancy
Ol Pejeta Conservancy is a conservation project mostly aimed at rescuing and preservation of endangered species of wildlife. Ol Pejeta's game-to-area ratio tops the Kenyan park and reserve league. It is the only park where the big 5 and chimpanzees can be seen and is also where the fastest growing population of rhino in Africa can be found.

Lake Nakuru National Park
Lake Nakuru, christened "The bird watchers paradise" and described as the greatest ornithological site in the world is a top touristic destination with over 400 recorded species of birds. Around the Lake one can find flamingoes, a wide range of waders including Avocet, while large rafts of Pelican can also be seen sweeping the water in unison. Other than birdlife the park boasts of other animals such as Lions,White Rhinos, African Buffalos, Rothschild Giraffes, Zebras, Impalas, Olive Baboons, Vervet Monkeys, Waterbucks, a variety of water birds (Yellow-billed Pelicans, Marabou Storks, Hammerkops, Fish Eagles among others.

Masai Mara National Reserve
The Mara, as it's popularly referred to, is Kenya's most frequented wildlife viewing area. Situated about 280 kms from Nairobi the name means "Spotted Plain" in the language of the Maasai, the colorful and interesting tribe which inhabits the surrounding areas. The Maasai have been living in harmony with nature and wildlife for centuries and it is mostly due to their beliefs and traditions that the area is still rich in wildlife. Whilst staying in the Maasai Mara, it's possible to visit an authentic manyatta or village for insights into the culture and lifestyle of the Maasai. During the seasonal migrations, the Mara is home to up to half a million wildebeest and an equally impressive number of zebra who move into the area from neighbouring Tanzania. These large numbers of animals give rise to a proportionate number of predators, especially the big cats. Lion, cheetah, leopard and hyena roam the vast grassy plains on the lookout for their next meal. It may be an unsuspecting impala or gazelle or even something small like a warthog or African hare. Whatever the players, the spectacle of nature unfolding is always awesome. Here it's also possible to observe; elephant, giraffe, baboon, African buffalo, eland, ostrich, bat-eared fox, jackal and sometimes the rare rhino. The rivers abound with hippos and crocodiles.

Maasai Village visit
Maasai and Samburu village visits are always entertaining with the performances of their tribal ceremonies. The traditional "call and respond" songs may be in praise of warriors who have killed a lion or had a successful cattle raid. There are also songs and dances of love, courtship and marriage. These colourful exhibitions are always a hit with guests who are free to join in the celebration should they feel the urge.

Masai Mara Nature walk
Leave your vehicle behind and take a walking safari with one of our experienced and qualified naturalists for the true thrill of the bush. Down on the same level as the animals you will experience the untamed beauty of the Mara. The walk takes place in a private concession area adjacent to the Masai Mara Game Reserve, where the scenery differs from inside the Reserve and picturesque acacia trees dot the hilly landscape. Throughout the whole nature walk you will be accompanied by a guide and Masai watchmen, who are responsible for your safety. Children under 10 years are, for safety reasons, not allowed to participate in walking safaris.
