Experience a nostalgic camping safari that recreates a sense of wildlife viewing adventure reminiscent of the times of the early African explorers.
Adventurer Camping Facilities:
Linyanti Adventurer Camp, Khwai Adventurer Camp & Xigera Mokoro Trai): 9.84 feet x 9.84 feet dome tents, complete with mini-verandas. Pure cotton linen (with duvets) on GI stretchers, bedside table with light and mini luggage benches finish the interior. Evening campfires are the norm and hurricane lanterns add to the atmosphere. The bathrooms are en-suite with the entrance to the canvas-wrap open air bathroom (zip door) through the rear of tent. There is a serviced en-suite tin bucket shower – with hot water available whenever guests require it. The bathroom in each tent has a short-drop toilet (Xigera Mokoro Trail has chemical toilets), with a separate toilet near the main area available for use during the day.
Adventurer camping aims to bring the guest closer to nature, by means of lively campfires, hurricane lanterns, diverse activities and a warm atmosphere permeating the camp (and its simple comforts). Adventurer camps are specifically outfitted to create that camping feel with a clear emphasis on essential comforts and pristine wilderness experience.
Guides: The entire safari is guided and hosted by a professional guide, who shares in-depth knowledge to present a seamless safari experience.
Exclusive experience: To ensure as much privacy and exclusivity as possible, most areas in which we travel are private concessions in prime locations. All Explorations camps are private and for the use of Adventurer Exploration guests only, while Chundukwa and air linkages are shared with other guests.
Routes: Zambia to Maun (& vice versa).
Time: We have specifically allowed for a three-night stay at Linyanti Adventurer Camp and on the Xigera Mokoro Trail; in a journey of this nature, guests thus have the time to relax and unwind while at the same time fully appreciating an in-depth introduction to the diversity of the area as well as its activities.
Transfers: To maximize guests’ travel time, a variety of transport modes that bring out the best of each area is used including flying in light aircraft and overland transfers in customized 4X4 safari vehicles. 4x4 tracks in certain wilderness areas are not maintained, take time to traverse and may be bumpy at times. As a result some of the road transfers can take a full day with lunch and ample game viewing opportunities en route.
THE WILD KALAHARI: Consider the The Wild Kalahari safari as a recommended add-on to this safari.
The Migration Routes concentrates on the savannah biome. The Wild Kalahari Exploration is an ideal opportunity to experience a very different ecosystem – The Kalahari Desert and links effortlessly after certain Migration Routes departures, adding a three-night stay at Deception Valley, Central Kalahari game Reserve.
In the winter months, the Kalahari is more typically a desert-type system: warm and dry. Game viewing remains productive and moves into the vegetated dunal belt and pan systems surrounding the valleys; a series of ecologically placed waterholes further enhance wildlife viewing. Gemsbok, springbok and blue wildebeest are commonly seen. Predator concentrations can be good and sightings of lions are complemented with some of the best cheetah viewing in Africa. Wild dog and leopard are seen on occasion and black-backed jackal and bat-eared fox also occur. Other mammal possibilities include southern giraffe, steenbok, red hartebeest and the charismatic ground squirrels and meerkats (suricates).

Zambia Jump
to Chundukwa River Lodge |
After arrival in Livingstone you will be met by a representative and transferred directly for a guided tour of the Victoria Falls, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. At 5604 feet wide, it is the largest curtain of water in the world and drops 338 feet into the basalt depths of the sheer Zambezi Gorge.
Chundukwa River Lodge is found on the banks of the Zambezi River – 16 miles upstream from the mighty Victoria Falls. The Lodge has elevated open-fronted chalets which blend seamlessly with the surroundings. With a maximum of 10 guests in camp at any time Chundukwa ensures a personal and private experience Please put their web address in here.
The area is game-rich and sightings of hippo, crocodile, among other animals are common. There is also abundant birdlife to be found around the lodge and on the river.
Add-On: Consider the Wild Kalahari safari as a recommended add-on to this safari.

DAY 2
Chobe River boat cruise, Chobe National
Park |
After a full breakfast, we leave Zambia and enter the Chobe National Park in Botswana by way of the Kazungula border, a point where the four countries of Botswana, Zambia, Namibia and Zimbabwe meet.
Enjoy a leisurely shaded boat cruise along the Chobe River, with a light lunch. This boat cruise offers a unique opportunity to observe puku, large herds of elephant, numerous pods of hippo and large crocodiles, as well as enjoying fantastic views of other general game and diverse birdlife.
We then depart by road for the Linyanti region. This interesting drive exposes the group to the rural way of life along the northernmost tip of Botswana and also affords views across the Chobe and Linyanti Rivers into Namibia’s Caprivi Strip. The last part of the road journey is a game drive as we approach the Linyanti, where our pre-erected Linyanti Adventurer Camp is situated. This part of the Linyanti is famed for its myriad of changing landscapes, from riverine to savannah and from forest to plains.
The Linyanti region’s life-giving perennial waters attract herds of wildlife that walk well-worn game paths to slake their thirst in the dry season. Predators follow in their footsteps and, coupled with the area’s diversity of habitat, make for exciting game viewing. |
DAYS 2 - 4; (3 Nights)
LINYANTI ADVENTURER CAMP - Linyanti Wildlife
Reserve, Botswana (Fully
serviced camping) |
The north-eastern corner of the Linyanti is famed for its myriad of changing landscapes with sweeping views, from riverine to savannah and from forest to plains.
On one of our full days, we depart on an early morning activity. Lunch is enjoyed at a scenic spot with a sweeping view of the Linyanti waterways. After a siesta in hammocks, there is the possibility of an afternoon canoe trip, before returning to camp at dusk. (The canoe activity is not always possible, depending on local hippo movements within the area that we canoe.)

DAYS 5 - 6;
(2 Nights)
KHWAI ADVENTURER CAMP - Khwai Concession, Northeastern
Okavango Delta, Botswana (Fully
serviced camping) |
After breakfast, we drive to the airstrip for light aircraft transfer to Khwai Adventurer Camp.
Khwai Adventurer Camp is located in a private concession just north of the Khwai River above the Moremi Game Reserve. The Khwai Concession is one of the most diverse areas in northern Botswana which seldom disappoints when it comes to producing extraordinary wildlife experiences. The life source for this area is the Khwai River – the northernmost “finger” of the Okavango Delta alluvial fan, which provides vital sustenance to numerous animals.
Over time, the Khwai area has metamorphosed into a wide range of exciting wildlife habitats – some of the most varied to be found in the entire Okavango Delta: a blend of forests, floodplain, wetland and grasslands. The narrow Khwai Channel is home to large mammals such as hippo and crocodile with buffalo and red lechwe often seen grazing along the fringe. The beautiful gallery riverine woodland found along the river provides further sanctuary to birds, primates and leopard. Elusive roan antelope often come to the river to drink. Activities focus around day and night game drives, nature walks and seasonal mekoro excursions.
Away from the river there is a wonderful mix of acacia and leadwood trees of varying sizes that abuts into mopane woodland. The latter, together with the permanent presence of water, attracts large numbers of elephant to the area. Larger predators include lion, wild dog and spotted hyaena, while birdlife found here is just as varied thanks to the colorful palette of habitats. |
DAYS 7 - 9;
(3 Nights)
XIGERA MOKORO TRAILS - Okavango
Delta,
Botswana Jump
to Xigera
Mokoro Trail |
We fly by light aircraft to the water-filled paradise of the private Xigera area, within the Moremi Game Reserve. Xigera is the ultimate Delta experience, with serene waters flowing through innumerable channels around remote islands and a profusion of plant and animal life.
There is no better way to experience the Okavango than to travel through it by mokoro, walking and camping out on a vegetated island – all essential elements of the Xigera Mokoro Trails experience. The experience is aimed at exposing the permanently flooded inner Delta, in the serene waterways and on the islands of trees and bush. Our guest tents are lighter here than the rest of the safari, with a gauze main frame, thus enhancing the views. Due to its remote location on an island, equipment is aimed at necessary comforts with “disco” stretcher-styled beds.
Activities include mokoro and walking safaris on inner remote islands, which enable up-close encounters with an excellent diversity of birdlife (including Pel’s Fishing Owl), frogs and a myriad of game species, some specially adapted to water, such as the rare sitatunga and the familiar red lechwe. Walking activities vary in length and duration through the seasons, especially in the months when the Okavango is at peak flood (June, July and August) where they become shorter as more islands become flooded. |
DAY 10
Bid farewell to the adventure as we transfer by light aircraft to Maun Airport.
NOTE: TAILOR-MADE ITINERARY OPTIONS ARE ALSO AVAILABLE ON FLEXIBLE DATES, FOR GROUPS OF UP TO EIGHT GUESTS.
SAFARI NOTES:
• Each departure is guaranteed from
a minimum of 2 confirmed guests, with a maximum of 8 guests
per safari.
• Age Limits – Children from the age of 12 are welcome on all scheduled
departures. For groups with children under 12, we suggest creating a private
tailor-made safari, subject to a different cost. For guests over the age of 75,
a certified medical certificate of full health must be provided.
• Luggage limitation of 20 kgs per person in a soft bag. This limit includes camera equipment and hand luggage. Passengers weighing more than 100kg (220 lbs) must please advise us in advance, as an extra seat will then have to be costed into the package for safety purposes.
• We reserve the right, due to situations beyond our control, to substitute
a lodge or location with another of comparable quality. This will be advised
timeously.
• Due to seasonally fluctuating water levels in the Selinda Spillway, we may need to switch the road transfer from Kasane – Linyanti to a flight and the flight from Linyanti to Lechwe Island to a road transfer. This will not affect the trip or costs in a negative way.
• There is a limitation of 2 single tents per safari, and a maximum number
of 5 tents at any site while on safari. No single supplement is payable. When
there are more than 2 single guests on a safari, we will attempt to match guests
with another guest of the same gender. No triple rooms are accepted.
• Please note that all scheduled Exploration safaris operate with a minimum
of two guests. Should all other bookings on an Exploration cancel or that there
is only a single guest booked, we will convert the booking to an FIT package,
which is in all likelihood subject to a higher price.
• Flashlights/ torches:
Please ensure that a minimum 2-D cell flashlight is brought on safari, with spare
batteries. Head lamps are also useful. Flashlights are not provided.
• Camera
battery charging facilities: Please note that a 12V cigarette lighter adaptor will be required (that is compatible with camera make) on this safari for charging batteries while on game drive or transfer drives. No 110/ 240V outlets are available, except at Chundukwa in Zambia.
• Dietary requirements and special
occasions: Due to remote locality of Adventurer camps, please ensure that full
dietary requirements and special occasions are advised at the time of your booking
confirmation.
