Buffalo herd on Moremi - Migration Routes Safari Kalahari lion - The Green Desert Expedition safari, Botswana Walking safari on The Great Wilderness Journey Mekoro trip in the Okavango Delta - The Green Desert Expedition safari

This is the ultimate African adventure where guests explore this unique water-filled land by foot, traditional mokoro and game drives. Your journey is rounded off with stunning aerial views of the Delta, not for nothing known as the "Jewel of the Kalahari."

Accommodation is in serviced camping in private concession areas.

To partake in this trip is to experience a nostalgic safari through private nature areas off the beaten path that recreates a sense of wildlife viewing adventure reminiscent of the times of the early African explorers.

Adventurer Camping Facilities:
Accommodation at Xigera Mokoro Trails comprises of 3m x 3m (9.84 feet x 9.84 feet) dome tents (maximum of two guests per tent), which are pre-erected by our camp staff prior to guest arrival. Our dome tents are well ventilated with a mini veranda and individual hand basins for each guest outside at the tent. Stretcher beds, bedrolls with crisp linen, duvets and pillows, towels and amenities (soap, shower gel and conditioning shampoo) are provided. In addition, there is a shared bedside table, coir mat (inside) and a 12v reading light provided. The tents are large enough to stand in and move easily. The camps aim to provide simple camping comfort that is serviced.

Hurricane lanterns and a good campfire light up the evening camp. Delicious meals are prepared around our campfire by our safari staff, creating a great atmosphere. The dining area is under the stars (although we erect a bush dining tent in the event of sporadic rains), to ensure the 'camping wilderness' feel. A full dining table, metal director chairs and bush style stainless steel place settings and drinks glasses are set up to accentuate simple serviced comfort in pure wild areas.

The bathrooms will be en-suite with the entrance to the canvas-wrap open air bathroom (zip door) through the rear of tent. There will be a serviced en-suite tin bucket shower - with hot water available whenever guests require it. The bathroom will also have an organic compost toilet for each tent, with a separate toilet near the main area available for use during the day.

Discoverer Camping Facilities:
Accommodation whilst at Khwai Discoverer Camp is in 6.3m x 3.5m (20.67 feet x 11.48 feet) walk-in canvas-style tents (maximum of two guests per tent). This is a permanent camp. The tents are airy and are beautifully designed to recreate the accommodation of the early explorers. Separate bedside tables with 12v reading lamps, wood wardrobes, comfortable beds, flushing toilets and mirrors are provided. Camp amenities (conditioning shampoo, soap, shower gel and body lotion) are elegantly displayed for use and private, en-suite separate toilet and shower areas are part of the main structure.

Discoverer camping aims to bring the guest closer to nature, by means of a lively camp fire, hurricane lanterns, wide-ranging activities and a warm atmosphere complimenting the comfort and added luxury of the lodges visited. Delicious meals are often prepared around the campfire by our safari staff. Discoverer camps are specifically outfitted with stylish comfortable interiors, creating a peerless wilderness experience.

DAYS 1 - 3; (2 Nights)
XIGERA MOKORO TRAILS - Okavango Delta, Botswana            Jump to Xigera Mokoro Trail

Guests on a Xigera Mokoro Trail ssfariAfter arrival in Maun, you will be met by your guide and fly by light aircraft to the water-filled paradise of the remote Xigera Concession, within the Moremi Game Reserve. Xigera is the ultimate Okavango Delta experience, with serene waters flowing through innumerable channels around remote islands and a profusion of plant, animal and bird life.

There is no better way to experience the Okavango than to travel through it by mokoro by day, and camp out on a vegetated island at night– all essential elements of the Xigera Mokoro Trails Camp. The experience is aimed at exposing the permanently flooded inner Delta, in the serene waterways and on the islands of trees and bush.

Activities include gliding by mokoro around remote islands, which enable up-close encounters with an excellent diversity of bird life (including Pel's Fishing-Owl), frogs and game, some specially adapted to water, such as the familiar red lechwe.

DAYS 3 - 6; (3 Nights)
KHWAI DISCOVERER CAMP - Khwai Concession, Northeastern Okavango Delta, Botswana          (Fully serviced camping)

Red Lechwe grazing on the flood plain. After Depart by light aircraft to Khwai Discoverer Camp, located in a private concession just north of the Khwai River above the Moremi Game Reserve.

The Khwai Concession is one of the most diverse areas in northern Botswana. Its life source is the Khwai River – the northernmost "finger" of the Okavango Delta alluvial fan, which provides vital sustenance to numerous species.

Over time, the Khwai area has metamorphosed into a wide range of exciting wildlife habitats – some of the most varied to be found in the entire Okavango Delta: a blend of forests, floodplain, wetland and grasslands. The narrow Khwai Channel is home to large mammals such as hippo and crocodile with buffalo and red lechwe often seen grazing along the fringe. The beautiful gallery riverine woodland found along the river provides further sanctuary to birds, primates and leopard. Elusive roan antelope often come to the river to drink. Activities focus around day and night game drives, nature walks and seasonal mokoro excursions.

The mix of acacia and leadwood trees joining mopane woodland, together with the permanent presence of water, attracts large numbers of elephant to the area. Larger predators include lion, wild dog and spotted hyaena, while birdlife found here is just as varied thanks to the colourful palette of habitats.

Accommodation is in 6.3m x 3.5m (20.67 ft x 11.48 ft) walk-in canvas tents (maximum of two guests per tent). The tents are airy and designed to recreate the accommodation style of the early explorers, with richly coloured teak director chairs and minimalist interiors. Separate bedside tables with 12v reading lamps, canvas and wood wardrobes, bathrobes, comfortable beds and mirrors are provided. Camp amenities (conditioning shampoo, soap, shower gel and body lotion) are elegantly displayed for use and private, en-suite separate toilet and shower areas are part of the main structure.

DAY 6
Charter flight to Maun
Bid farewell to the adventure as we transfer by light aircraft to Maun Airport.

NOTE:   THIS SAFARI IS FLEXIBLE WITH REGARDS TO DATES AND ITINERARIES FOR TAILOR-MADE TRIPS FOR SMALL GROUPS.

SAFARI NOTES:
• Each departure is guaranteed from a minimum of 2 confirmed guests, with a maximum of 8 guests per safari.
• Age Limits – Children from the age of 12 are welcome on all scheduled departures. For guests with children under 12, we can create a private tailor-made safari which is subject to an extra cost. On any safari with guests under the age of 16, it is a prerequisite that a related adult sleeps in the same tent as the child, as a safety precaution.
• Luggage limitation of 20 kgs per person in a soft bag. This limit includes camera equipment and hand luggage.  Passengers weighing more than 100kg (220 lbs) must please advise us in advance, as an extra seat will then have to be costed into the package for safety purposes.
• We reserve the right, due to situations beyond our control, to substitute a lodge or location with another of comparable quality. This will be advised timeously.
• There is a limitation of 2 single tents per safari, and a maximum number of 5 tents at any site while on safari. No single supplement is payable. When there are more than 2 single guests on a safari, we will attempt to match guests with another guest of the same gender. No triple rooms are accepted.
• Please note that all scheduled Exploration safaris operate with a minimum of two guests. Should all other bookings on an Exploration cancel or that there is only a single guest booked, we will convert the booking to an FIT package, which is in all likelihood subject to a higher price.
• Flashlights/ torches: Please ensure that a minimum 2-D cell flashlight is brought on safari, with spare batteries. Head lamps are also useful. flashlights are not provided.
• Camera battery charging facilities: Please note that a 12V cigarette lighter adaptor will be required (that is compatible with camera make) on this safari for charging batteries while on game drive or transfer drives. No 110/ 240V outlets are available, except at Xigera Camp and Deception Valley Lodge.
• Dietary requirements and special occasions: Due to remote locality of Adventurer camps, please ensure that full dietary requirements and special occasions are advised at the time of your booking confirmation.
• We will have a minimum of 2 to 3 camp assistants in addition to the guide at each camp.
• Our open vehicles are specially designed and extended 4 x 4 Land Rovers or Land Cruisers. They seat eight guests in comfort. The vehicles are designed so that all guests have good all-round visibility (although the rear part is closed to lessen the dust entering the vehicle while driving). The large open window and roof areas offer good visibility and promote photographic opportunities, while at the same time being able to close for seasonal rainy weather en-route. Each vehicle is custom-built to our own standards and includes a fridge and a small field guide book library.
• Please ensure you have a sufficient amount of US Dollars/Euro in cash of small denominations, as it is difficult to get any US$ or Euros within southern Africa. We suggest that you allow US$25 per day to cover the cost of basic souvenirs (within reason). For expensive souvenirs allow extra.
