THE VICTORIA FALLS HOTEL - ZIMBABWE
The Victoria Falls HotelOne of the most popular hotels in town is the Victoria Falls Hotel. This is one hotel which can truly claim to be unique. For almost 100 years, visiting members of Royal families, international and local statesmen, and celebrities worldwide have stayed at the hotel. This hotel boasts an atmosphere steeped in history, combining the charm of the old with the comfort and convenience of today.

Modern amenities mingle well with the traditional feeling - these include personal safes, bathrobes, satellite television and thoughtfully, umbrellas for the convenience of guests who wish to wander through the Victoria Falls rainforest. Overlooking a delightful courtyard, the new Stables Wing mirrors the colonial décor with luxurious bathrooms highlighted by free-standing ball and claw tubs and walk-in showers.

Set among the landscaped gardens is the glorious swimming pool with inlaid stonework and a cascading fountain. Floodlit tennis Courts and croquet in the gardens are on offer or for those who want to be pampered a massage and beauty salon offers a range of therapeutic treatments. The Victoria Falls Hotel’s long and colourful history is depicted in various corridors and public spaces by pictures and posters that offer insight into the past glories of the Empire. A chapel, built in 1929 and consecrated by the Bishop of Southern Rhodesia, provides the perfect setting for weddings and weekly Anglican services.

Accommodation includes 181 rooms and suites. The suites and rooms are all well appointed, cool and comfortable; furnished in traditional Edwardian style, all air-conditioned with every modern amenity, including satellite TV, personal safe, bathrobes and umbrellas for personal use when visiting the Falls (the spray is like rain). The hotel also has its own private pathway directly to the Falls, which are less than a 10-minute walk away.

Children are welcome at The Victoria Falls Hotel: younger guests will receive a goody bag on arrival, which includes puzzles, sweets and writing paper. Bedtime stories are read in the evening with tales about African animals and folklore; garden nature trails are organized for children to learn more about flowers, trees and birds and a special children’s menu is available through room service, by the pool or on the Terrace. A baby-sitting service is also available upon request.

Special packages are available which include wonderfully indulgent pampering treatments in the salon, sunset cruises or breakfast canoe safaris on the Zambezi River, helicopter flips over the falls, guided shopping tours and elephant back safaris. The Victoria Falls Hotel also offers specific packages for golfers, weddings, honeymooners or those celebrating anniversaries.

Unique shopping… Two curio shops specialize in gifts such as clothing, curios, silverware, colonial memorabilia and intriguing artifacts from all parts of Africa. The Pullman Suite shop is converted from a former conference room to house objets d’art as well as a small art gallery.

Three restaurants are located in the hotel: Formal dinner is served in the elegant Edwardian Livingstone Room, with a classic a-la-carte menu. Stanleys serves traditional high tea every afternoon on the Terrace, with spectacular views onto the Victoria Falls bridge and the Falls themselves. Stanleys also offers intimate candlelit dinners in the evening. For something more “African”, The Jungle Junction Summerhouse has a nightly barbecue with ethnic entertainment.
