SASAAB LODGE - SAMBURU NATIONAL PARK, KENYA
Situated above the banks of the Uaso Nyiro River, in the arid heart of Samburu land, is SaSaab Camp - a tranquil retreat, which offers awe-inspiring views across the Laikipia Plateau, towards Mt Kenya. Guests can unwind in one of nine, elegant Moroccan-style tents, which boast a comfortable sitting room a lovely ensuite bathroom and a private plunge pool.

Guests can tuck into a mouth-watering selection of Moroccan-style menus before indulging on discerning nightcaps. A sparkling swimming pool, perched on a hillside overlooking a river, and soothing in-room massages and beauty treatments add to guest delight. Adventures include twice-daily game drives (which include spotlit night drives), walking safaris along the river or in the grasslands, day trips to the Samburu Reserve, mountain biking and cultural excursions.

Pass the time lazing on cushions in our ‘souk’ style mess whilst looking out over the rugged Northern Frontier district, or simply relax with a good book by the main pool and watch the elephants amble in the river below.

Our nine Moroccan-styled rooms have Egyptian cotton sheets on our four poster beds and invigorating showers in our spacious bathrooms. Each room is over one hundred square meters in size and extends out to the verandah and private plunge pool with views overlooking the river and wildlife below.

Dining
With meals made from the freshest ingredients from our own vegetable garden, we are able to arrange a special diet. Our chefs will prepare a delicious breakfast or lunch on the deck. Nothing can compare to the simple comfort of sitting out under the stars as you enjoy your evening meal while you take in the sounds and scent of the wild.

Activities
Cultural Trip
Sasaab is situated in a culturally rich area offering an exciting mixture of Samburu life. We can arrange special visits to traditional ceremonies such as blessing rituals, weddings, Morani dancing and Manyatta visits. (By appointment and invitation only)

Trips to local Samburu markets on Wednesdays and Thursdays are a highlight of a visit to Sasaab. These markets offer guests an opportunity to see the art and beauty of the Samburu culture through their jewelry and attire.

Wildlife
Encounter a variety of wildlife on our day or night game drives. Discover lion, leopard and cheetah or the Samburu Special Five (Grevy’s Zebra, Reticulated Giraffe, Beisa Oryx, Gerenuk and Somali Ostrich).
The wildlife highlight of Samburu is the large herds of elephants, which are especially tolerant of safari cars.

Walking and Camel Riding
Start your East African Holiday by exploring the Samburu countryside on a camel or enjoy a walk through the breathtaking vastness of Africa on a guided nature walk.

We are located on community land and consequently, you can comfortably explore the surrounding area on foot. Fill your senses with the intriguing sounds of the animals close by and the combined scents of the African wilderness.

Accompanied by an experienced guide, you will learn how to identify and understand the behavior of the animals and insects you see. You will be in awe of the number of different bird species you will encounter. Discover the fascinating plants and herbs and their uses in the Samburu culture. You will also gain an incredible insight into the way of life of the Samburu people and their customs.

Fly Camping
Explore the great outdoors by camping under the stars, in a new location every night, with only a mosquito net between you and the African sky. Our experienced guide will find remote spots and set up a simple fly camp with only the bare necessities. ‘Fly’ is the name of the upper sheet of a tent and in the early days of the Safari, a hunter would simply take the upper sheet and sleep underneath it.

You can enjoy a good walk around the camping area, or just be alone in the African bush in our tranquil locations far from any distractions. After your excursion, enjoy comforts like hot water showers and simple but delicious meals by the fire.

Take pleasure in the sensation of sleeping under a light sheet as you listen to the sounds of the wilderness. Wake up to the peaceful rhythms of nature and enjoy the sheer vastness of your surroundings. There can be no better way of getting in touch with the African wilderness than camping out in the open spaces.

Children's Activities
We welcome children to all our properties and there is plenty for them to do at Sasaab. They can learn to make traditional Samburu bows and arrows, toothbrushes from trees and enjoy grilled marshmallows.

Children can create their own souvenirs of their Sasaab Samburu adventure; by taking home a plaster cast of a wild animal track or hand carving their own traditional Samburu weapons.

Treatment at Spasaab
Spasaab blends modern beauty and health treatments using Liz Earle skin care products. Our treatments include massage techniques, manicure and pedicure and also our distinguished Liz Earle Safari facials, which place world class beauty therapy within a tranquil setting.

The spa is located on the banks of the river, and so guests can be pampered whilst experiencing breathtaking views of nature at its best. You will be mesmerised by the steady flow of the river, the relaxing sound of birdsong and spectacle of the various animals that are drawn to the river.

Our body scrubs include an assortment of natural and healthy ingredients including Kenyan coffee, herbs, Sasaab salt scrubs and Liz Earle 100% natural skin care products sure to leave you feeling invigorated and rejuvenated.

Our SpaSaab has two treatment rooms, and offers space for yoga and pilates or a workout on the TRX or you could simply take a dip in our wrap-around plunge pool.
