THE EMAKOKO -
NAIROBI, KENYA
The Emakoko is named after a river which flows into the Mbagathi River just above the lodge. The Emakoko is a family-owned and run lodge artfully built into the side of a valley on the Mbagathi River, which borders the Nairobi National Park a 45 minute transfer from both airports in Nairobi city.
The Emakoko allows people to start and finish their safari in the wildlife environment they have travelled so far to enjoy.
The Emakoko allows people to start and finish their safari in the wildlife environment they have travelled so far to enjoy. Within 15 minutes of clearing customs they can be viewing game in Nairobi National park. The only “transfer” delays likely to be encountered en route to or from The Emakoko are the natural pauses to watch a pride of lions or waiting for a Rhino or journey of Giraffe to cross the road.

The beautifully appointed rooms look out over the game park so one can fall asleep to the sounds of Africa, a lion roaring or the cry of a lone hyena, an amazing contrast to the sounds of traffic, ambulances, fire engines and dogs barking which are the normal sounds of any sleeping city.
There are five rooms on the same level as the main areas and a further five rooms with the most spectacular views positioned on top of the cliff, overlooking the valley.

Boutique
The Emakoko boutique offers a wealth of treasures all locally crafted in Kenya.
The shop is also one of the main Africa Adorned (Jewellery Ltd) outlets; Africa Adorned is the unique collection of original yet traditional timeless jewellery, designed by Lippa Wood and Joanna Garner and hand made in the Maasai Mara supporting the local communities.
Activities &
Wildlife
If stress is what you are escaping from, and rest is what you need, then The Emakoko is the perfect place. At times the silence can be almost deafening during the day, and the nights are often filled with distant noises of wild animals going about their nocturnal business.
Take a game drive into one of the most unique game parks in the world, Nairobi National Park or visit the community that border it. Otherwise an excursion into Nairobi to visit the David Sheldrick wildlife trust, the giraffe centre or the local shops may be more appealing. Finally for the more adventurous, a helicopter trip to the world famous Masai Mara, or up Mt. Kenya might be the better alternative.
Game Drive
The Emakoko is situated on the Nairobi park boundary and we have direct access into the park, this is where all our game drives take place. The Emakoko has 4 Toyota Land cruisers, converted especially for game viewing. Our guides are also KPSGA qualified and have a huge amount of knowledge on the flora and fauna in the area. Nairobi National park is famous for its very healthy black Rhino population and is renowned for very close encounters with lions.
Helicopter Trips
The Lodge has a helipad on the grounds and therefore there is no need for transfers to any airports, the helicopters will pick you up from the lodge. The Helicopters available are a Euro copter EC130, ad Bell 407 and a Bell 206B3. All of these can take guests up Mt. Kenya for a spot of trout fishing, perhaps a trip to the Mara and even a flight to the beautiful Magadi area.
Shopping
Nairobi is just around the corner for those who need to get last minute items. Although our boutique is fully stocked, we would be happy to take you to any of the local shopping areas in Nairobi. Our driver guides are not only wildlife specialists, but they also understand the art of bargaining.
Meals & Drinks
• Local beers, spirits, soft drinks and house wines are included. There are however luxury spirits and some wines which are available for purchase.
• Although there is a dining room, we would be happy to accommodate meals anywhere in the lodge surrounds.
• Lunches are buffet style
• Dinners are set menus
